Black Mo and Bald Eagle 9-16 thru 9-18-2019

This part of Balck Mo is not Delayed Harvest or Fly Fishing Only. It is all bait all tackle but, we saw a fish or two rise so we fished.
This is also Balck Mo more towards Red Mo. Real pretty but alas we got no fish here. We spent a lot of time hunting and maybe the Spring is a better time to hit…
Als0 Black Mo. Nice area but no activity.
Then we went here.
I got this rainbow on the second cast and though Six Mile was going to be great. Not so. Only fish I got in Six Mile and we spent a lot of time trying.
This is were that rainbow was living. I had another on...failed to land it...and another strike. Who knows, maybe the same fish.
Another look at the pool where the rainbow was living.
This is Black Mo...Mike is on the bank. Fish were rising here but only sporadically.
But, we caught a few of them. On the first day we only caught rainbows. On the second, we only caught browns...go figure.
Can't say how many nymphs I lost in this pool. All kinds of debris on the bottom...logs and such. Mike calls it structure, I call it debris.
A brown we pulled from that pool.
Mike with a nice brown. Almost the first cast and on a black ant.
Then I got this one. Like I said, all browns during this visit to the pool.
As you can tell by the feed line it was low and slow. Fish have all year to inspect your offering.
But, sometimes you get lucky. What a plesant surprise!
Mike tying one on.
Another brown I caught. Mike was catching too but sometimes we were too far away from each other for me to get pictures of his catch.
The beavers have this pool backed up. We opened it up and within and hour, the top of the pool was clear again.
We went further downstream on the Black Moshannon and stopped where the road crossed the stream. I started with nymphs and did OK.
Here is the pool I fished.
Mike went further downstream but I stayed put and got a couple more fish here.
Like this one.
And then a rainbow hit.
And another. I think I got 4 from that hole in a very short period of time.
Or was it five...don't know and I wasn't counting, it was just plain fun.
The last day I was there we went to Bald Eagle Creek. A beautiful stream. More entomologically challenging than I am accustomed to but what a treat to fish.
Bald Eagle is so diverse. There are different flows, depths and hatches for each quater mile of stream. And, there are fish in all of them.
The next two photos show the caddis cases on the bottom of the stream. In one place the rocks were literally covered with them!
Check this out. But, I only saw one tan caddis in the air or on the water. Mid day, a size 22 midge down wing was the trick. Take a couple steps downstream and…
I caught four fish in rapid succession. So fast that I forgot to get pics but, in the evening when the fish were boiling I didn't touch one. It's the challenge…
Mike gave me a streamer just to save the day and I netted this little bow.
We spent most of the day in this area and I saw more fish activity than I've seen in many a day. No wonder guys like Charlie Meck spent so much time on this…
